Last ninja speaks: "Always be able to kill your students"

The same applies to bosses, flatmates and girlfriends. Trust me.

Found here: Last ninja speaks: "Always be able to kill your students":

Cory Doctorow:

Grand Master Masaaki Hatsumi is the last living apprentice of the last "fighting ninja," Toshitsugu Takamatsu. At 76, he continues to train would-be ninjas, and the AP's Hans Greimel spent a day at his studio, collecting ninja wisdom like "Always be able to kill your students."

In many ways, the curly-haired, wide-eyed Hatsumi has been a victim of success: He has helped make ninja an international household name by training followers from Chile to South Africa. But he also has watched his legacy co-opted by goofy caricatures such as "Mutant Ninja Turtles" and schlocky Hollywood send-ups like "Beverly Hills Ninja."

"I think it's pathetic," Hatsumi says of the ninja's modern image.

V3

Version 3... we're on Version 3. It sort of rolls off the tongue. It's so rollie that I think it deserves to be bold. Version 3. Aww. We are all growed up.

First there is the evil of the SQL migration. It was a bit of a bitch. I have to admit that a complete lack of SQL knowledge might have shafted much of the migration, and if you've been reading over the past few days, then you'll have noticed that a bunch of the old posts have corrupted symbols and weird categories assigned to them. I'm going to fix them, but it will take a few weeks. I'll get the goddamn things back online eventually.

A brief note to those of you reading over the past days: sorry. Yeah, things have been weird with the layout and all that. I was doing my best to get it sorted out. Now that the hard work is done, I'll be setting up a bunch of test stuff on the remote servers... so you'll only see the finished stuff from now on.

We have a sexy new 4 column layout, which might play havoc with those of you with the lower-res screens. It will also not bother those of you who are lazy rss types. Well fuck you, because you're missing out on all the toys.

In the left column, the column that from now on be known as "lefty" there is stuff about me. My X-box live gamer card should be there. Marvel as it takes me bloody ages to finish the most simple Tomb Raider level. Laugh at my pitiful gamer score. Weep at my online battlefront efforts.
Under that is a skype calling card. If you have skype, click this and you'll call me... if I am online. Piss me off with this and then I'll ridicule you here.
Then there are flickr and youtube widget things. You'll love them. They show cool new photos and videos that I've posted.

The 2nd from the left column has the latest blog posts. In fact this is there, if you're not a dog-humping-rss guy.

The 3rd column has blog tools, like a search (and technorati search) tool, and various date/category archives. They'll be blank as the archives get filled in, but eventually there will be 500+ ancient posts linked in here.

Hm. The 4th contains my blogroll and the coolest little widget that I had the mostest trouble sorting out. It's blog feeds. Mmm. The latest feeds from a bunch of my favourite blog-type things.

Return of the links

A lot of what I used to post was cribbed links from the internet. I stopped and moved it to a separate blog. Well as I'm consolidating, and all that guff, I'm going to move them back into the archives.
So the archives will (eventually) flood with those old things moved back from blogger.
You'll also start to see stuff I've found appearing as often as posts. If not more so...

Changes

I've not been idle. Well, I have been, but there are circumstances and such stuff.

Anyway. Hosting upgraded, new stuff being loaded... migration to SQL... this Easter weekend will be busy. Normal(ish) service resumed when I've finished. I'll tell you, I promise.
